Bomb blast rocks market in Bangkok – seven injured

A bomb explosion has rocked a busy suburban shopping area in the Thai capital, Bangkok, injuring seven people.

Bangkok police colonel Narongrit Promsawan said on Monday that a home-made bomb hidden near trash containers went off at about 9:00 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) on Sunday in Ramkhamhaeng District.

Promsawan added that police had launched an investigation into the incident to see what caused the explosion and who were involved.

“A preliminary investigation of the scene found many nails were part of the device,” Promsawan stated, adding that the victims had not sustained life-threatening injuries.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Meanwhile, deputy government spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat said, “It is now under investigation, which may take time, but not too long because security for Thais and foreigners is a very important matter for this government.”
