Nigeria’s top Islamic body has accused the government of failure to protect citizens from attacks by Takfiri extremists, urging people to defend themselves under law, Press TV said.

The Jama’atu Nasri Islam (JNI), the umbrella group for the country’s Muslim community, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday, urging Nigerian authorities “to be manifestly committed to the responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians” from attacks by Takfiri Boko Haram militants.
The Muslim community, based in northern city of Kaduna, also urged Muslims to “take all defensive measures within the purview of the laws to protect themselves since government has clearly failed.”
