Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the conclusion of nuclear talks proved that the policy of pressure and sanctions against the Islamic Republic is of no avail.

“Those who used to say up until now that the Islamic Republic of Iran has breached [its nuclear obligations] and therefore does not have the right to enrichment and that sanctions are legal due to UN resolutions, have come to the conclusion that the policy of pressure and bullying has failed and they should abolish this policy and choose mutual understanding instead of hostility,” Rouhani said.

The Iranian president made the remarks during a Saturday event where Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei met with senior Iranian officials as well as ambassadors of Muslim countries residing in Iran on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

President Rouhani said Iran managed to display its power of diplomacy in dealing with global powers.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), following 18 days of marathon talks in the Austrian capital city of Vienna over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Based on the conclusion, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of sanctions, including all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Republic.

Rouhani said the Iranian negotiating team has managed to fulfill the demands of the Iranian nation and those of the Leader so far. He expressed gratitude to Ayatollah Khamenei for his support and guidance in the course of the negotiations.

The UN Security Council is expected to vote Monday on the conclusion of Iran’s nuclear talks to make it an official document.
