The Iranian Army has launched the second phase of major military exercises code-named Mohammad Rasoulallah [Mohammad, the Messenger of God] in the country’s south.

In this stage of the drills on Friday, the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces practice striking mock enemy targets by using tank fire supported by Air Force helicopters as well as missiles and artillery units.

Naval forces will also engage the mock enemy. The army backed by its F-4 fighter jets will also disrupt the hypothetical enemy’s communications lines.
Also on Friday, Iran test-fired its domestically made anti-tank missile systems Dehlaviyeh and Toofan.

Iranian Ground Force Commander Lieutenant General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan underlined that the country’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to confront any aggressor and threat.

“Today, our country is facing asymmetric threats and to confront them we need skillful and faithful commandos,” Pourdastan told FNA after meeting the Iranian Army forces participating in the military drills underway in Southern Iran on Thursday.

“Today the unit (of commandos) is supplied with its needed weapons and we are capable of confronting any threat by them,” he added.

During the first stage of the six-day military drill on Thursday different ground units, fighter jets and air defense systems were stationed in the southeastern part of the country. Various surface and undersurface vessels were also deployed in the Sea of Oman.
The exercises cover an area of 2.2 million square kilometers stretching from the east of the Strait of Hormuz all the way to the 10th parallel north in the north of the Indian Ocean.

The joint war games by the Army’s ground, naval and air forces are backed by Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.
Different types of military hardware and weapons are deployed both in the water and on the ground during the drill, which is the largest of its kind in the region.
