Iranian Armenians decry Qur’an burning

The Iranian Armenian community in Tehran has held a rally to condemn the desecration of the Holy Qur’an on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

Thousands of Armenian Christians took to the streets of Tehran and shouted anti-US slogans to protest against the sacrilege on Friday.

The protesters said desecrating a holy book is an insult to all religions and contradicts the teachings of Christ.

Priest Komitas Gharakhanian told a Press TV correspondent, “You can be sure that the person who has done this cannot possibly be a Christian. Jesus said that in the future people would come in [his] name, but they would be… the wolf in sheep’s clothing… The person who has done this is the wolf that Jesus had warned about.”

Earlier on Wednesday, a prominent rabbi of the Iranian Jewish community also condemned the desecration of the Qur’an and called on all religious leaders to denounce the move.

On September 16, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a message to the Muslim ummah, condemning the sacrilegious act and warning about plots against Islam.

Terry Jones, the pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, was the architect of the plan to burn copies of the Qur’an on the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 incidents.

He abandoned the plan in the face of fierce international condemnation, but anti-Islamic extremist elements in the US tore pages and burned copies of the Qur’an earlier this month, triggering mass rallies in India, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, and many other countries.
