Four charged with murder over Leicester arson attack

Four people have been charged with murder over a blaze in Leicester that killed four members of a Muslim family.

In a hearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, Jackson Powell, 19, Nathaniel Mullings, 19, Shaun Carter, 24 and an anonymous 16-year-old teenager were charged with murder of a woman and her three teenage children on Wood Hill.

The four confirmed their names and addresses in the court and indicated that they understand the nature of charges against them, local media reported.

The men are expected to attend a hearing at Leicester Crown Court on October 1, with a further preliminary hearing in mid-October.

According to Leicester police, a 19- and a 20-year-old man remained in custody, while a man, aged 21 was released without charge.

Earlier this month, a teenager, named Kemo Porter Kemo was charged with four counts of murder. The 18-year-old Kemo is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court at a later date.

The fire, which broke out at the house of neurosurgeon Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar on September 13, led to the deaths of his wife Shehnila Taufiq, daughter Zainab, 19, and sons Jamal, 15, and Bilal, 17.
