Observers Warn of Catastrophe across Yemen

Political experts on Wednesday warned of catastrophe across Yemen after hundreds of gunmen of the al-Islah party, affiliated to Ikhwan al-Muslimun (Muslim Brotherhood), breached their ceasefire with the Houthis, and attacked the movement’s supporters with batons and cold weapons in Sanaa.

20 people were wounded and 6 Houthi supporters were abducted during the attack which came two weeks after the ceasefire between Houthis and the al-Islah Party.

The two groups put their gunmen on the alert, saying they are ready for confrontation any moment. Yemeni experts and politicians cautioned that continued violence could lead to brutal operations in coming days.

Pundits have called on President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and security officials to prevent the Muslim Brotherhood from such brutal operations, warning that the al-Islah Party’s violent attacks can push the country into “real catastrophe”.
