Three US-led troops die in Afghan war

At least three more soldiers operating under the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have been killed in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

NATO said on Saturday at least one foreign soldier was killed in a militant attack in southern Afghanistan, without giving further details.

Earlier, two French troops were killed in separate incidents.

A French flight lieutenant was killed after his helicopter crashed near Bagram district in the eastern province of Parvan.

The other French soldier succumbed to non-combat-related injuries in eastern Afghanistan.

Some 237 US-led forces have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

The death toll of the US-led forces in 2010 stood at 711, making the year the deadliest for foreign forces in Afghanistan since the start of the US-led invasion in 2001.

The rising number of foreign casualties has stoked opposition to the Afghan war in the NATO member states as well as in other countries that have contributed troops to the mission.

NATO has admitted that the power of militants in Afghanistan is on the rise despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led forces in the country.
