Pakistan bombing death toll hits 21

The death toll from a massive bomb attack on police headquarters in southwestern Pakistan has reached 21, including nine women and six children.

Police say the car bomb attack targeting a police station in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Kohat took place on Tuesday. Earlier reports had put the death toll at 17 with nearly 20 injured.

The death toll rose after several seriously injured individuals passed away overnight at hospitals.

At least 21 people including women and children were killed and nearly 100 wounded Tuesday in the incident.

“So far 21 people, including nine women and six children, were killed in the attack while 98 others were injured,” police officials told Press TV correspondent.

Rescue workers had faced serious difficulties as electricity was suspended after the blast. Security forces have cordoned off the area saying a nearby police residential complex has also been severely damaged.

No person or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Reza Gilani condemned the attacked and termed it as the most heinous crime against innocent civilians.
