Stable nanometric Black Carbon Slurry developed in Iran

Researchers at Iran University of Science and Technology have been able to develop a stable aqueous suspension slurry containing nanometric black carbon with high solid percentage.

“We were able to make stable aqueous suspensions from nanometric black carbon and also mixtures of black carbon and silicon carbide with the highest solid material percentage,” Zahra Salehpour, one of the researchers told INIC.

She added that the product have many applications in printing ink and silicon carbide bodies used in scrubbers.

“Besides this innovation, we managed to produce stable slurry just by changing pH for lower percentages of black carbon,” she added.

In this research, first the suspensions with various percentages of black carbon powder produced by an Iranian company under the trade name of N-220 were prepared and each of them was mixed for 72 hours in jar mills and then rheological behavior and viscosity of them were measured.

In the second step, the effect of pH change on these suspensions was examined by repeating the previous steps. Next, flow behavior of aqueous suspensions containing different percentages of black carbon studied by the addition of three kinds of deflocculant with different percentages at two conditions of constant and variable pH.

At the final step, suspensions of black carbon and silicon carbide with various percentages of solid material and fixed volume ratio of these two substances were prepared and all the mentioned experiments were repeated.
