Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said his forces have smashed two teams affiliated with the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group before entering Iran from the western borders.

The senior commander on Monday told Tasnim that the forces have recently disbanded the terrorist teams, which had plotted to infiltrate into the country from the western regions.

According to the general, a large number of suicide vests and explosive devices were confiscated from the terrorists in the operation.

The commander gave an assurance that Daesh is by no means a serious threat against the Islamic Republic of Iran, but made it clear that the strategy of the Armed Forces is to annihilate any terrorist groups before they reach the country’s borders.

“We monitor the moves of terrorist groups beyond our borders,” Pourdastan underscored, adding that Iran has the upper hand when it comes to intelligence.

Back in May 2015, Defense Ministry Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said Iran does not consider the Daesh terrorist group to be even a threat, stressing that any hostile move by the notorious group against Iran will be nipped in the bud.

“Definitely, the power of Iran’s security, military and law enforcement forces stands at a level that they can foil any move by that group (ISIL) before it even starts,” the minister had announced.
