Palestinian Administrative detainees’ strike enters its 42nd day

Palestinian administrative detainees continued their hunger strike declared 42 days ago in Israeli jails in protest against their continued illegal detention without charge or trial, demanding an end to administrative detention policy.
Many hunger strikers were transferred to hospitals after their serious health deterioration.
Around 120 administrative detainees have declared on the 24th of April an open hunger strike demanding their immediate release especially that their detention is based on the so-called “secret file”, which neither the detainee nor his lawyer is ever informed of its details.
Israeli Prison Service imposed a set of sanctions and punitive measures aiming to break the detainees’ strike, while the strikers declared their determination to continue their battle till their demands are met.
Along the same line, a group of Palestinian activists shut down Wednesday morning the UN offices in Ramallah, protesting its passive position toward administrative detainees’ ongoing hunger strike.
Dozens of activists closed this morning the UN premises in protest against its continued silence over Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike declared 42 days ago, eyewitnesses told PIC reporter.
The activists held banners calling on the UN to bear its responsibilities towards Palestinian prisoners especially those who are engaged in hunger strike.
In their statement distributed during the sit-in, the activists said that closing the UN offices in Ramallah came in protest against its “irresponsibility” towards Palestinian cause and prisoners’ issue in particular.
The activists said that the UN failed in protecting Palestinian detainees’ legitimate rights in Israeli jails after 42 days of their hunger strike.
