Potential US presidential candidate Senator Lindsey Graham has warned about a military strike against Iran, saying the measure would be very dangerous.

“I think a military attack on Iran opens up pandora’s box,” the Republican senator from South Carolina told The Intercept on Sunday.

“You’ve got to assume the worst, not the best. They could attack our bases in the region. They could cause disruption in the Gulf of Hormuz [sic — the Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman]. It would be a messy affair,” he added.

Earlier this month, Republican Senator Tom Cotton suggested that the United States could attack Iran’s nuclear facilities in “several days.”

The war rhetoric has once again begun in Washington amid intense nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers to reach a final agreement by the end of June.

The two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Switzerland on April 2.

On Friday, former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton also claimed that Israel has speeded up its decision to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities following Russia’s move to sell S-300 missile system to Tehran.

President Barack Obama “says all options are on the table. Nobody believes him. The Iranians don’t believe him. The Israelis don’t believe him. He doesn’t believe it,” Bolton said in an interview with Bloomberg.

“So, the spotlight is on Israel as twice before in their history they’ve struck nuclear weapons programs in the hands of hostile states,” he added.

“Their decision now is enormously speeded up by [Russian President] Vladimir Putin’s decree on Monday to allow the sale of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile defense system” to the Islamic Republic, he said.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei condemned the “shameless” military threats against the Islamic Republic.

Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei made the comments in a Sunday address to a group of senior Army commanders in Tehran on the occasion of National Army Day.

Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said Iranians have proved that they can strongly protect the country and stand against the aggressors “like a tight fist,” praising the “integrity” of the Iranian nation in the face of threats.

“Iran has never been and will not be a threat to regional and neighboring countries, but it will act with full force in the face of any threat,” said the Supreme Leader.
