‘Giving Syria seat to opposition contrary to OIC charter’

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdullahian said giving Syrian government seat to the opposition is contrary to the charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He told IRNA that the issue has been removed from the Islamic Conference agenda, because it was contrary to the OIC charter.
He added in the 40th meeting of the Islamic countries foreign ministers, all states underlined political approaches, stopping violence and terrorism in Syria.
Amir-Abdullahian stressed that Iran’s nuclear talks with 5+1 group was one of the issues which attracted attention of all countries, and a number of them expressed interest to host next meeting of the nuclear talks.
He added that Tehran’s proposed resolution dubbed as; WAVE (world free of violence and radicalism) which was proposed by President Hassan Rohani in the UN, is to be placed in agenda of special committee of the foreign ministers meeting.
Concerning election of the new secretary general for OIC, the senior diplomat said that Saudi Arabian ex-minister of Hajj Iyad Madani took oath as the new secretary general of the organization, who is to take office from January first 2014 and substitute current secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
Amir-Abdullahian met with both secretaries general and discussed issues of mutual interest with them on the sidelines of the meeting.
