The government information portal has reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran has expressed its support for the legitimate government of Venezuela and is prepared to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.
The statement emphasized that any acts of foreign interference, along with efforts to impose threats and sanctions against Venezuela, are considered harsh and ultimately destined to be unsuccessful.
Nicolás Maduro officially commenced his third six-year term as President of Venezuela this Friday, following his electoral victory nearly six months ago.
In a contentious political landscape, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who has held office since 2013, was proclaimed the victor in the July elections as affirmed by both the nation’s electoral authority and its highest judicial body. However, opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and his supporters, including the United States, alleged that the election was fraudulent. These claims have ignited a wave of violent protests, spearheaded by the opposition, across various cities in Venezuela.
At the inauguration ceremony, President Nicolas Maduro vowed that his forthcoming presidential term will usher in a “period of peace.”
