Pezeshkian: Global consensus increasingly views Iran as a proponent of peace and security

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the global community now recognizes the Islamic Republic's commitment to promoting peace and security worldwide, emphasizing that Iran's nuclear program is entirely peaceful in nature.

During a meeting held in Tehran on Thursday with Rafael Grossi, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pezeshkian affirmed that Iran’s nuclear activities adhere strictly to the frameworks and legal authorizations set by the IAEA.

He stated that the international community now recognizes that Islamic Iran is pursuing global peace and security.

“We have consistently shown our goodwill in previous instances and hereby state our readiness to collaborate and align with this international organization to address and resolve any uncertainties and allegations regarding the peaceful intent of our nuclear activities,” he added.

His remarks were made merely a day following reports that European nations are advocating for a fresh anti-Iran resolution during the upcoming International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting, aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran.

The Iranian president emphasized the non-aggressive intent of the nation’s nuclear endeavors, highlighting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s religious edict, which explicitly forbids the development of nuclear weapons.

A senior official stated that Iran remains steadfast in its commitment to the fatwa issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which unequivocally prohibits the pursuit or development of nuclear weapons. This stance is unwavering, and any deviation from this policy will not be permitted.

Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran does not pursue conflict, it will firmly retaliate against any acts of aggression.

Officials have stated that engaging in warfare does not align with the interests of their nation, the region, or the global community. They emphasized that no rational actor desires the initiation or escalation of conflict. However, they assured that they would respond firmly to any threats to their security.

During the meeting, Mr. Grossi lauded Mr. Pezeshkian for his commitment to peace and consensus-building. He also expressed appreciation for the steadfast cooperation shown by the officials of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog outlined the constructive engagement and cooperative relations currently existing between Iran and the agency.

Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed confidence in the opening of a new era of constructive relations between Iran and the agency under the leadership of President Pezeshkian.

Rafael Grossi emphasized that constructive dialogue and collaboration between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will effectively counteract any attempts to undermine Iran’s nuclear program.

In 2015, Iran demonstrated its commitment to a peaceful nuclear program by entering into the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with six major global powers. Nevertheless, the agreement’s stability was jeopardized in 2018 when the United States unilaterally withdrew and reinstated sanctions on Tehran, casting uncertainty over the deal’s viability.

In 2019, Iran began to retract its adherence to the constraints outlined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), following what it described as the inability of other signatory nations to fulfill their obligations under the agreement.
