Pezeshkian: Iran’s strategy is one of peace, but it may shift its approach when faced with pressure.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Iran denounces all forms of aggression globally. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic is committed to promoting peace and friendship, avoiding conflicts, and engaging positively with other nations.

Pezeshkian informed Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in a phone conversation that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently aimed to promote peace and friendship, denounced acts of aggression globally, and is willing to collaborate to put an end to wars, violence, and global insecurity.

The Iranian president condemned the United States for breaching the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and expressed dissatisfaction with the European signatories’ inability to meet their commitments under the deal.

Pezeshkian remarked that while the Islamic Republic of Iran fully upheld its commitments under the JCPOA, the United States not only violated the agreement but also unilaterally withdrew from it and escalated pressure and sanctions on Iran. Additionally, he pointed out that, disappointingly, the European countries failed to honor even a single clause of their promised commitments.

He stated, “Our strategy is centered on fostering peace and friendship, steering clear of tensions and conflicts, and engaging with all nations globally. However, if our country is compelled to act due to sanctions and pressures, our course of action will undoubtedly change.”

He criticized the hypocrisy of the US and some Western nations concerning human rights and democracy.

“While America and several Western nations frequently condemn human rights abuses in other countries over the mistreatment of a single individual, they remain conspicuously silent on the widespread suffering and deaths of tens of thousands of innocent women, children, and elderly people in Gaza. The Zionist regime’s bombardment of civilian areas, including schools and hospitals, not only goes unchallenged by these countries but is also facilitated by their financial and military support. What kind of logic or standards justify this stance?”

Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for the Norwegian government’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian people and urged the Norwegian prime minister to collaborate more effectively with other European nations to promptly end the Israeli actions against the Palestinians suffering in Gaza.

The Norwegian prime minister characterized the relationship between Oslo and Tehran as both amicable and longstanding. He emphasized that Norway has consistently viewed Iran as a friend, expressing a desire for the ongoing development and prosperity of the Iranian people, a sentiment that Norway intends to uphold in the future.

Støre also voiced his worries about the rising tensions in the West Asia region, particularly regarding Israeli attacks on the inhabitants of the blockaded Gaza Strip.

“We have denounced Israel’s military actions in Gaza and the resulting catastrophic impacts. Norway, Ireland, and Spain were among the initial European nations to acknowledge the Palestinian people’s right to form an independent state. We sincerely hope these tragic and regrettable events will conclude swiftly,” he stated.
