PG Arab states seek to thwart Bahrain revolution

shamsara20110315074818200The Persian Gulf Arab kingdoms are interfering in Bahrain’s internal affairs in an attempt to thwart the tide of revolutionary movements in the country, a political analyst tells Press TV.

“The Saudis and the Qataris [and] some of the Persian Gulf what so-called Sheikhdoms are intervening inside Bahrain and preventing people from really toppling [the regime] or making changes,” said a professor at University of Beirut Mohsen Saleh.

Meanwhile, the international community, particularly the US and EU, has turned a blind eye to Manama’s oppressions against the popular uprisings in Bahrain, he added.

Saleh, however, expressed optimism over the prospect of democratic developments in Bahrain and noted, “We will see the change; people will do the change in Bahrain. Whatever happens, the people will achieve what they want finally and really soon.”

On Monday, Bahrain’s highest court upheld prison terms for 13 pro-democracy activists, including eight life sentences already handed down for their role in anti-regime protests in 2011.

The Bahraini uprising began in February 2011. The Manama regime promptly launched a brutal crackdown on peaceful protests, calling in Saudi-led Arab forces from neighboring states.

Bahraini protesters say they will continue holding anti-regime demonstrations until their demand for the establishment of a democratically elected government is met.
