A wounded Palestinian is rushed to a hospital after surviving an air strike in Gaza City.
In the first 48 hours of Israel’s latest assault on the Gaza Strip, at least 42 Palestinians were confirmed dead, including a minimum of 13 children under the age of 16. The air raids are increasing in intensity with indication by the Israeli military that this new operation is intended to rival the 2008-2009 invasion of Gaza.
The streets of Gaza are empty, save for the moments following an air strike when the locals come together to extract bodies from the rubble. The dead are mourned, the injured carried off to the nearest emergency room posthaste. Photographers are dispatched to document the scene, but things are moving so fast — lives are on the line here — that blurry images are the best they can do. Coincidentally, they say the most too.
