European Officials Stress Failure of Western, US Policies on Syria

Former Austrian Defense Minister Werner Fasslabend said that the situation in Syria is a typical example of the US and European fiasco as their policies in tackling the situation there have been met with failure.
In a statement to the Austrian Die Presse newspaper, Fasslabend said that the international community should have mediated for ending the crisis instead of taking sides, pointing out that the insistence of Paris and London to provide the opposition with weapons poses a threat to the Austrian soldiers operating within the UNDOF forces in Golan.

The ex-minister expressed regret over the Austrian troops’ pullout from Golan, calling the Austrian government to press ahead with efforts for preserving world peace and security after it has proved itself to be a credible mediator.

Austria announced intention to pull out troops operating within the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in Golan (UNDOF) after they came under repeated attacks by the armed terrorist groups recently.
