Iranian Deputy Health Minister says Iran has developed a linear accelerator device for the treatment of cancer patients. “This production line will be unveiled during a ceremony by President Ahmadinejad, on Thursday in Qeshm Island.”
In an interview to Mehr News, Dr. Mostafa Ghanei said that “this technology is one of the branches of nuclear technology, and has been developed with the cooperation of Polish scientists and has applications in treatment of patient with malignant tumors which require radiotherapy.”

Sanctions imposed by Western countries, especially in medical field, has put a lot of pressure on the Iranian patients, but these sanctions have forced Iranian scientists to be self reliant to produce some advanced medical devices locally and save a lot of money.

Deputy Health Minister pointed to the cost of purchasing one of these devices as being about 15b Rls. ($600,000) and added “the Iranian manufactured devises cost about 70% of the comparable foreign made ones.”
