Bulgaria dismisses US threat warning in capital

The Bulgarian government has angrily dismissed a warning by the US embassy to American citizens to avoid a busy transport center in the capital Sofia over a potential terror threat.

On Thursday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stressed that no credible threat was present at the Hotel Pliska area and that residents and tourists were not in danger.

The US embassy on Wednesday posted a statement on social media saying that it had obtained information pertaining to a “possible threat against an unspecified bus line or bus lines” in the busy area in the capital.

“The way US diplomats disclosed the information, obtained from their Bulgarian counterparts, is absolutely inadmissible and improper,” said Borisov.
