Premier al-Halqi inaugurates development projects worth SYP 4 billion in Lattakia

Premier al-Halqi inaugurates development projects worth SYP 4 billion in Lattakia

At the directives of President Bashar al-Assad, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi laid Thursday the foundation stones of and inaugurated a number of vital development projects in the coastal province of Lattakia at a cost of approximately SYP 4 billion.

 

The projects included the inauguration of al-Kabo power station at an overall value of SYP 1.4 billion and laying the cornerstone of the Youth Residence worth SYP 2.4 billion.

Dr. al-Halqi toured the halls and departments at Martyr Bassel al-Assad International Airport and ordered that its services for passengers be improved at an overall value of SYP 150 million.

 

He also inspected Jablet mill, textile companies in Lattakia and the marble, granite and metals’ companies in the province.

In statements to journalists, al-Halqi said that his tour comes in the context of interaction with citizens and inspecting the service and development projects of concern to citizens.

He said that the plans to expand Martyr Bassel al-Assad airport will be carried out within six months, indicating that it is “an emergency phase to cope with the growing numbers of passengers.” The overall cost of the project is estimated at SYP 500 billion.

 

PM al-Halqi underlined the role of private sector in developing national economy, meeting the demands of the internal market and creating job opportunities.

 

The Premier pointed to the added burdens that the governorate has shouldered due to its hosting large numbers of citizens displaced from other provinces.

He stressed that the government is interested in providing the citizens’ needs and supporting the families of the martyrs and the injured.

 

Al-Halqi ordered that SYP 1.7 billion be earmarked in subsidies and support to service and development projects in the province.
