Three soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Three foreign soldiers, including an American and a Spaniard, have been killed on a dingle day in separate incidents in Afghanistan.

According to NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), two of the soldiers including the American were killed by improvised explosive devices.

ISAF has not disclosed the nationalities of the other soldier, but said the three were killed in separate incidents in the south and the west of the country.

The Spanish Defense Ministry said a soldier of Colombian descent serving in the Spanish army was killed and six others injured after their convoy struck a mine in the Badghis Province.

The deaths bring the number of foreign troops killed in action so far this year to 47.

With a death toll standing at 44, last month was the deadliest January for foreign forces since Taliban regime was overthrown in the e2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

In January 2009, only 25 foreign troops were killed in Afghanistan.
