Prominent Syrian Army commander to lead offensive to liberate Albukamal

The prominent commander of the Tiger Forces, Major General Suheil Al-Hassan, will lead the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) upcoming offensive to liberate the Islamic State (ISIS) stronghold of Albukamal, a military source said.

According to the source, General Hassan was informed this week that his Tiger Forces will lead the offensive from the T-2 Pumping Station to the border-city of Albukamal; however, this will not commence until Deir Ezzor City is liberated.

The source added that the Russian High Command want General Hassan to lead the operation and this was agreed upon by the Syrian Arab Army’s High Command.

If the operation proves successful, the Syrian Arab Army will be able to cutoff the Islamic State’s most important supply route from the Iraqi city of Al-Qa’im.
