The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iranian officials should act in a way that the people do not feel worried about healthcare issues.

“Officials and the conscientious should make plans and conduct administrative affairs in such a way that the people’s minds will be at ease about the issue of (medical) treatment,” the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei said during a meeting with a number of benefactors of the health sector in Tehran on Monday.

The Leader also stated that healthcare is an important issue and should have priority over many other issues.

On December 27, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed Health Minister Marziyeh Vahid-Dastjerdi and appointed a caretaker to run the Health Ministry.

After dismissing Vahid-Dastjerdi, the only female cabinet minister, Ahmadinejad appointed Mohammad Hassan Tariqat-Monfared as caretaker health minister.

“Managing the family physician plan, [attending to problems related to] medicines and treatment [of diseases], attention to public health and nutrition, [ensuring] educational, health, and medical justice, and reducing the people’s expenses in this sector are the main priorities of this important ministry,” Ahmadinejad said in his decree appointing Tariqat-Monfared.
