During a parliamentary session on Sunday, Qalibaf addressed and refuted the allegations made in the concluding statement of a recent EU-GCC meeting held in Brussels, concerning the three Iranian islands located in the Persian Gulf.

The Speaker of Parliament expressed that the council ought to have concentrated its efforts on stopping the Israeli regime’s military actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, rather than leveling unsupported allegations concerning Iran’s territorial integrity.

In a statement urging the European Union to reconsider its stance towards Iran, Qalibaf accused the bloc and several key member states of losing their independence, alleging they have become compliant with Israeli directives. He claimed this alignment serves to rationalize what he described as Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

In a firm statement, a spokesperson reiterated that the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb remain an integral part of Iranian territory, dismissing claims from the European Union and other entities as unfounded. The spokesperson emphasized the nation’s unwavering stance on the matter, asserting that no external party would challenge this fundamental principle.

In a firm assertion of national sovereignty, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf issued a warning to nations challenging Iran’s claim over the three disputed islands. He cautioned that any attempts to dispute Iran’s territorial rights could face significant resistance, underscoring the resolve of the Iranian populace to uphold and defend this principle.

In a statement released on Thursday, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations criticized the accusations made by the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The mission asserted that Europe is taking a misguided and dangerous approach towards the Islamic Republic.

The Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa, along with the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, have long been acknowledged as territories historically belonging to Iran. This assertion is supported by a plethora of historical, legal, and geographical records from both Iran and international sources. Despite this, the United Arab Emirates has consistently contested Iran’s claim to these islands.

The islands came under British administration in 1921. However, on November 30, 1971, following the withdrawal of British forces and shortly before the official formation of the United Arab Emirates as a federation, Iran reasserted its sovereignty over the islands.
