A sprawling fire in Souk Al Hamidiyah marketplace again broke out in the old walled capital city of Damascus early on Friday. There was a fire in April.

Black smoke can be seen several kilometers away from the Souk Al-Hamidiyah.

The old town of Damascus has lots of buildings constructed in wooden structures and its narrow alleyways often prevent fire engines from rushing to rescue in good time.

The cause of the fire has not been identified yet, and the fire has been continuing as of press time.

On April 23, an electrical short circuit caused a big fire in the Al-Assroniyah marketplace, which is located between the Damascus historic citadel and the famous Al-Hamidiyah Souk in. The fire has caused huge property losses.
