Iran honors imposed Iraqi war on Iran

The Iranian Armed Forces commemorate the 1980-1988 war imposed by Iraq on Iran, holding a parade and showcasing the country’s military power and abilities.

The ceremony opening the Sacred Defense Week was held on Wednesday morning at the mausoleum of the late architect of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in southern Tehran.

Armed Forces Joint Chief of Staff, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, inaugurated the ceremony, addressing the army, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and the volunteer Basij forces.

General Firouzabadi hailed Iran’s defense capabilities and the role of the Islamic revolution across the world and its “pre-emptive quality” in thwarting enemies.

He further pointed out that the country’s military might is defensive and one of deterrence in nature.

According to General Firouzabadi, enemies view Iran as the superior military power in the Middle East.

“International limitations and the lack of public support in the war-seeking states have made the nations stand against enemies,” Firouzabadi said.

The latest military hardware that Iran has acquired and developed will be on display for the first time in a show of defense against any potential threats or assault.

In the military parade, the army will put on display missiles including Qadr, Shahab 2, Shahab 3, Sejjil, Fateh, Qiam as well as speed boats, tanks and Sa’eqe, Azarakhsh and Karrar fighter jets.
