A Middle East affairs analyst believes the recent protests in Turkey are the result of a fire that Erdoğan has set in Syria.
In an interview with foreign policy reporter about the mass protests in Turkey and the suppression of the protests by the authorities, Saadullah Zarei said: “in fact, what is happening in Syria, has been unclear, first of all, what is the nature of the protesters and their demands from the government of Turkey? And what forces are following these gatherings, which there are different speculations about it.”

“The process in Turkey is a democratic process; and the current party came to power with the votes of the people. And the government by using the usual methods that currently exist in Europe and the United States suppresses mass protests, just like the Wall Street Movement was suppressed with the use of force,” he added.

The Middle East expert said: “No doubt the Syrian crisis and Turkish government interference in the internal affairs,” and that “according to some analysts, Erdoğan has set a fire in Syria, and now the Turkish government has been engulfed in it too.”

Zarei emphasized: “we do not have strong evidence about the crisis in Turkey, but we can say that it has a racial nature and the two groups of Kurdish and Alawites that had been marginalized in recent decades, have come out against Erdogan’s position.”

Zarei reiterated: “There are still doubts about the nature and purpose of the protests in Turkey, which need more information to decide.”
