Nimr’s death to weaken foundations of Saudi government

Shaykh Mustafa Malas, the head of the Lebanese National Solidarity Council, condemned Saudi Arabia’s execution of Shaykh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, saying that given the current conditions in the Middle East and seditious conflicts facing the Islamic ummah, the execution of this Shi’a Muslim scholar and anti-Saudi government activist only has one reason – it was the enemies’ plan to stoke the flames of religious differences and ethnic tensions, reported Rasa.

The Lebanese Sunni scholar said this will cause hatred among various Muslim sects and their followers and have a very negative impact on future relations between Muslim countries, adding: “The criminal activities of Saudi officials indicate they seek to continue the conflicts in the region and enflame dissension and won’t spare anything in order to succeed in this goal.”

Shaykh Malas said that there is a connection between the execution of Shaykh al-Nimr and the killing of Zahran Alloush, the commander of the Jaysh al-Islam Takfiri terrorist group in Syria, as Saudi Arabia could have used the excuse of Alloush’s death by a Syrian Air Force airstrike as a revenge attack against the Islamic Resistance. “The successive defeats suffered by Takfiri terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria could be one of the main reasons for Saudi Arabia’s execution of Shaykh al-Nimr,” he said.

He warned Saudi officials, saying that there will serious consequences for their criminal acts in regard to the execution of Shaykh al-Nimr, adding that it will weaken the foundations of their government. “This scholar and martyr sought to establish Islamic unity,” he stressed.

The president of Lebanon’s National Solidarity Council stated that the execution of Shaykh al-Nimr was against all religious and international laws and stressed that all religious scholars in the Muslim world must also stand up against this criminal activity and to be vigilant in regard to the negative implications of such actions.

Shaykh Malas expressed regret over the role of some Saudi “court scholars” in the propagation of sedition in the region, saying that they’ve put all their efforts into justifying Saudi Arabia’s crimes, adding that “Muslims must not heed the fatwas issued by these court scholars because they are, in fact, the embodiment of the aspirations of the Saudi authorities.”
