Residents allowed to return to Palmyra on Thursday: Syrian Government

According to an official statement by the governor of Homs, Talal Al-Barazi, residents of Palmyra (Tadmur) will be allowed to return to the recently liberated city on Thursday, April 7th. For the civilians that do not have transportation to the city, they will be taken by a government bus on Saturday, April 9th.

Once civilians are settled, the government will hold a ceremony to celebrate the liberation of Palmyra and pay tribute to those that perished at the hands of the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS). Palmyra was once home to over 70,000 Syrians; however, most fled the city before ISIS captured it from the Syrian Armed Forces last May.
