Senior Commander of ISIL’s Special Forces Killed in Iraqi Forces’ Attack in Mosul

 

Iraq’s Police Chief announced that 31 ISIL terrorists, including notorious commander of the group’s special forces, were killed in his forces’ missile attacks in Western Mosul.

Major General Shker Jowdat said that notorious Commander of Jeish Dabeq (special forces) of ISIL Abdul Qader Saleh nom de guerre Abu Jarrah and 30 of his forces have been killed in the Iraqi forces’ missile attacks on the main military camps of ISIL in the Western part of Mosul that stretched towards terrorists’ positions in the fifth bridge region.

A source from the Iraqi Federal Police said on Tuesday that senior ISIL leader Abu Muhajir al-Rusi, who possibly was of a Russian origin, was killed in an artillery strike on a command post located in the Old City in the Western parts of Mosul, Bas News reported.

Abdurrahman al-Abdin, advisor to the head of the Iraqi Federal Police further said that the  artillery strike was guided by aerial drones that managed to kill the ISIL leader, including field commander nicknamed Abu Muhajir al-Rusi, as well as six of his aides.

The city of Mosul was captured by ISIL back in 2014. In October 2016 the Iraqi government forces backed by their allies launched an operation for liberating the city.

The Iraqi forces managed to liberate the entire Eastern part of Mosul in late January 2017. In the middle of February the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi launched the next phase of he operation aiming to recapture the remaining parts of the city in the West.
