Cheetah Forces Advance Deep in the Heart of ISIS Controlled Aleppo: 2km to the Kuweires Airport

Syrian Army’s “Cheetah Forces” (military branch of the Tiger Forces) – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City and Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions) – continued their large-scale offensive inside the Deir Hafer Plains of east Aleppo, targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) defensive positions at the strategic town of Sheikh Ahmad.

The Syrian Armed Forces reportedly broke-through ISIS’ frontline defenses inside Sheikh Ahmad on Monday, killing several enemy combatants and destroying a number of military installations at the rural sector of this town; this recent increase in military activity comes 24 hours after a large tank platoon arrived in the Deir Hafer Plains to assist the soldiers from the Cheetah Forces that are entrenched inside the town.

According to a military source from the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Armed Forces advanced to the rural district of Sheikh Ahmad after taking full control of the railway axis that stretches across the town’s northern and southern flanks.

As a result of their most recent advances, the Cheetah Forces and their allies have now positioned themselves within 2,000 meters of the besieged Kuweires Military Airport, leaving less than a third of Sheikh Ahmad to go before they can assault ISIS’ positions along the Aleppo-Raqqa Highway.

The Kuweires Military Airport has been under a brutal siege imposed by ISIS for the last two years, with only 300-350 embattled soldiers confined to the walls of this base in eastern Aleppo.
