Rouhani’s speech, perfectly appropriate: Mark Glenn

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, political commentator, about Iranian President Hassan Rouhani censuring Western countries for imposing “unjust sanctions on other countries.”

Press TV: Mr. Glenn, what was your impression of Mr. Rouhani’s speech? How would you describe his tone?

Glenn: Well I think that he possessed the tone of a true statement. I think that his first address as a world leader in front of the world body was perfectly appropriate. I do not think that it was too barbed. I think that he was very reasonable and I think that Benjamin Netanyahu and his media machine are going to have a very difficult time trying to paint him as a mad man or as someone who is working actively to destroy world peace.

I think that the contrast between Rouhani and this two-headed beast of Netanyahu and Obama, I think that we have opened a new chapter in world political affairs in the sense that here you have a man heading a country that has been demonized now for thirty years while on the other hand you have these two warmongers namely Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu who are now naked before the entire world.

Their aggressive nature, their imperial designs are obvious, now manifest in front of the entire world and I think that President Rouhani’s speech win a long way towards delineating these contrasts between these two extremes.

Press TV: And what impact do you think Mr. Rouhani’s speech would have on the future nuclear talks?

Glenn: Well I think that Iran is going to state a course. When President Rouhani talks about adopting a cooperative stance with the rest of the world I think Iran has been cooperative as much as any sovereign country can expected to be cooperative when that country had demands put on them to surrender their sovereignty.

I think that Iran specially given the fact that Putin has just won a deep political and diplomatic victory against Israel and against America which took place in Syria, I think that Iran if she continues to stay close to Russia and even deepen her ties with Russia, that Iran is going to continue on with her nuclear program as she has as a peaceful program and I think that in the end that the world is going to be forced to deal with this on Iran’s terms which let’s face it, if we were to go by the Charter of the United Nations or any type of international law that has existed now for centuries.

Iran’s stance on this issue is perfectly proper and perfectly appropriate.

Press TV: And the main thing that is on the minds of ordinary Iranian people is the issue of sanctions. I mean how likely would those sanctions be lifted because as we know the American Congress is in charge of, has the authority to lift or impose sanctions. Will the Congress be cooperative enough?

Glenn: Well it just depends on how much pressure is put on Congress. I think the sanctions right now are the only thing that are keeping Benjamin Netanyahu from blowing his lid in doing something really crazy.

This certainly was a very provocative, you know what has just taken place in recent weeks with Obama pulling back from Syria, this has got Benjamin Netanyahu absolutely furious. Certainly the speech that President Rouhani made today where he obviously is speaking as a dignified and respectable world leader, this has got to get Benjamin Netanyahu up in arms.

And so if the US Congress starts talking about or even begins pulling back on these sanctions it could push Benjamin Netanyahu over the edge and to cause him to do something really crazy.

So I do not see this happening any time soon for the simple reason that the rest of the world knows that they have a wild animal in a suit in the person of Benjamin Netanyahu and quite frankly I think that they are afraid of what he is going to do.
