Humanity needs spiritual relations not bombs

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad termed thought, culture and spiritual relations as the main needs of humanity and said: “Today’s human being does not need bombs, nuclear and mass destruction weapons, because these means have not fulfilled the basic needs of the human being.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony of The International Festival on Avicenna Theosophia in Hamedan province, President Ahmadinejad said: “Today we need more intellectual and cultural meetings than political ones.”

President Ahmadinejad referred to the efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in this regard and said: “Through the efforts of these countries, UNESCO approved that the year 2010 be named as the year of cultural convergence and synchronism.”

Noting that Avicenna and the like belong to the whole human community, President Ahmadinejad said: “If the human being himself is a matter of discussion, the word takes a global meaning, and no scientist is limited to his geographical area but belongs to all human beings.”

“Of course some people try to change this into political disputes and say that that scientist belongs to us, which is nonsense,” Ahmadinejad reiterated.

“We believe Avicenna, Hafez and all of Iranian scientists belong to the whole world because human being is the matter of discussion here,” IRI President said.

President Ahmadinejad referred to the International Philosophy Day which is due to be held in Iran next year and said: “I here invite all scientists and philosophers over the world to attend the event.”

“Mankind will not reach perfection without divine and monotheistic ideology. Prophets fulfilled the same mission and today, the perfect man, though being invisible to our eyes, is present,” said President Ahmadinejad in an address to the closing ceremony of the International Avicenna Festival.

President Ahmadinejad said that humanity needed Avicenna thoughts, adding: “We should correct the path of human community. This will not be done unless through divine and monotheistic thoughts.”

“Avicenna is a person who reached the higher peaks of science and we seek to find the reasons of his perfection,” IRI President said.

He said the root cause of mankind’s calamities throughout history had been his materialistic attitude towards himself and the world.

President Ahmadinejad said World War I and World War II had been the result of the materialists’ wrong attitude.

“Certain people’s materialistic approach towards the world and their ignorance of spirituality, morality, worship and unity resulted in murder, massacre and homelessness of tens of million people and demolition of thousands of cities,” regretted the President.

“They (liberalists) deprived man from the resolve for perfection, love, passion, justice, spirituality and morals and tightened the heaviest type of shackle around his legs, telling him ‘you are free!'” added President Ahmadinejad.

“What is everlasting is what is left by scholars, intellectuals and scientists who viewed man and the world from the monotheistic and divine angle,” he concluded.

The International Festival on Avicenna Theosophia was organized in two sectors of international awards and scientific panels to explore topics on theology, philosophy and traditional medicine.

A total of 48 articles were presented to the five panels of the scientific gathering from among 116 received by the secretariat of the gathering.

Some 38 outstanding philosophers from Iran and 17 other countries including Britain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Hungary, Lebanon, Nigeria, Japan, America, South Africa, India and Germany were present in the event.

It aimed at exploring the thoughts of the great Avicenna, encouraging scholars and researchers to do more research works on his works and philosophy and strengthening the links among different scientific centers working on the issue.

Avicenna lived in 10th century AD and mastered many scientific and scholarly fields of his time like Arabic, Quranic studies, Fiqh (jurisprudence), philosophy, logic, algebra, medicine, astrology and theology.
