Aliyev calls for boosting energy ties with Iran

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday called for enhanced ties with Iran in all fields, the energy sector in particular.

Talking to visiting Oil Minister of Iran Massoud Mirkazemi, President Aliyev described the recent visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Baku and Istanbul as fruitful.

Azeri President also congratulated Mirkazemi for being elected president of the Vienna-based Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Meanwhile, Iranian minister called for expansion of mutual ties with Azerbaijan.

Referring to the two countries potentials in oil, gas and petrochemical sector, Mirkazemi said making investment in the area is vital.

Mirkazemi arrived in Baku on Wednesday to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan and meet with top Azeri officials.

Iranian minister aims at negotiating for a long-term agreement on gas exports.
