Iran invites neighbors to Intifada confab

Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani invites his Iraqi, Kuwait, Omani, and Turkish counterparts to an upcoming Palestinian Intifada (uprising) conference in Tehran.

Larijani extended invitations to the Fifth Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada in phone conversations with Jassem Al-Kharafi, the speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Head of Omani Majlis al-Shura Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Isa’ee, Speaker of Council of Representatives of Iraq Usama al-Nujayfi, and the Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek, Fars News Agency reported on Sunday.

“Under the present circumstances, dialogue and consultation among Islamic countries are necessary for defending the rights of the oppressed people of Palestine,” Larijani said.

The top Iranian legislative official also urged the “vast potential” of parliaments of the Islamic states be directed towards the realization of the rights of Palestinians.

“The important Palestinian issue should not be allowed to be forgotten in light of the current developments in the region,” he added.

The Palestinians staged their first uprising against the Zionist Occupation Israeli occupiers of their territories, between 1987 and 1993, and a second time in 2000s.

A total of 6,200 Palestinians died during the popular movements, which were fiercely confronted by Tel Aviv.

Palestinians have warned of a third intifada, should Zionist Occupation Israel continue the occupation of their lands and the trampling of their rights.
