Separate attacks kill 8, injure 38 across Iraq

At least 8 people have been killed and 38 others wounded in a series of bombings and gun attacks across Iraq.

On Wednesday, three police officers were killed in the western city of Fallujah; about 60 kilometers (35 miles) west of the capital city of Baghdad, after armed men in a speeding car opened fire on a police checkpoint.
Hours later in the city of Kirkuk, situated some 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Baghdad, two car bomb attacks killed at least one person and injured 26 others.
In the Baghdad itself, three commuters lost their lives and eight others wounded after a bomb attached to a minibus went off.
In another incident in the northern city of Mosul, located some 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of the capital, at least one person was killed and four others wounded in a bomb attack in a carpenter’s workshop.
On May 2, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said that April 2013 was Iraq’s deadliest month since June 2008, with a total of 712 people killed and 1,633 wounded in bomb attacks and other forms of violence.
Almost 600 of the victims are reported to be civilians and the rest were members of Iraqi security forces.
The mission also said Baghdad was the worst affected governorate with a total of 211 killed and 486 injured.
