Triple car bombing kills 15 in northeastern Syria: SANA

Three car bombs have went off in a northeastern Syrian town in Hasakah Province, killing 15 civilians and wounding dozens more.

According to Syria’s state-run news agency, SANA, one of the explosions took place near a medical center and another at a crowded market in the town of Tal Tamr, which is mainly inhabited by the Syrian Kurds.

The report added that the vehicles were packed with large amounts of explosives and inflicted significant damage to nearby shops and businesses.

Meanwhile, the London-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the fatalities at 12 people, adding that the death toll was likely to rise because of the large number of people who were wounded and missing.

The monitor group added that the exploding vehicles were likely tankers, which caused the massive explosions.

Terrorists with the Daesh Takfiri group, which has overrun parts of Syria, have been staging attacks against Tal Tamr in an attempt to break the control of Kurdish forces over the town.

The terror group started targeting the Christian villages in the Khabour region, where the town lies, in February. Kurdish forces and allied fighters from the Assyrian Christian minority subsequently retaliated and forced the terrorists from these areas. The Takfiri group, however, kidnapped more than 230 Assyrians before its withdrawal.

The Kurdish forces and local fighters have been fighting on the side of Syrian Army troops for some time to clear the province of Daesh presence.

In July, the forces pushed Daesh from the provincial capital city of Hasakah, which had been captured by the terrorists earlier this year. The city and its surroundings, however, continue to bear the remnants of the group.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured since March 2011, according to the United Nations. The crisis has also displaced nearly half of the country’s population.
