Sanctions will not compel Iran to relinquish its rights: ambassador

The Iranian ambassador to France has said that the sanctions imposed on the country over its nuclear program will not compel the Iranian nation to relinquish their legitimate rights.
“It is natural that the sanctions have had certain effects and (have created) certain problems, but this does not mean that the sanctions will be able to cripple Iran or that the Iranian nation will give in to these pressure because this (peaceful use of nuclear technology) is our legitimate and legal rights. And we hope that the West will accept these realities without making a miscalculation,” Ambassador Ali Ahani told France 24 in an interview broadcast on Thursday.

He added, “Iran is one of the first signatories to the NPT (the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty), and we have always fulfilled our commitments.”

“It is clear for the agency that we are not seeking nuclear weapons, and we never intend to seek nuclear weapons, and this is not in our doctrine,” Ahani said.
