Another British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan as the death toll for the US-led troops continues to rise and set new records.

The soldier, from 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment, was killed on Saturday in Nahr-e Saraj in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, AFP quoted the Ministry of Defense in London as saying.

The soldier was targeted by a bomb attack following a security patrol.

The latest incident brings the death toll for British troops in the war in Afghanistan to 295.

In a separate incident earlier on Saturday, a Polish soldier was killed in a bomb attack in the eastern province of Ghazni.

He was the 28th foreign serviceman killed in Afghanistan over the past week.
