The European Union has slammed as “appalling” a video made by an Israeli settler group depicting the bloc’s ambassador to Tel Aviv as a cannibal murderer movie character.

The video, released by the group on Sunday, depicts Danish head of the EU delegation in Tel Aviv Lars Faaborg-Andersen as Hannibal Lector, a cannibal character from the movie “The Silence of the Lambs.”

Its producers, the Jerusalem Periphery Forum, accused Faaborg-Andersen of undermining Israel by supporting and providing aid to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

“Resorting to personal threats and slander can never be justified, despite differences of opinion,” the EU said in a statement on Monday.

In the video, the Israeli group seemed to be referring to EU’s housing assistance to Palestinian and Bedouin encampments in the E1 area between East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Ma’ale Adumim settlement.
