Saudi Envoy Summoned over Rocket Attack near Iranian Embassy in Sana’a

Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Saudi charge d’affairs in Tehran on Monday after a rocket hit an area near the Iranian embassy in Sana’a, Yemen, earlier today.
“After this incident the Saudi envoy was summoned to the foreign ministry and in a protest letter to the Saudi officials we officially notified them of their duty to protect diplomats and diplomatic centers,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said today.
He confirmed the earlier remarks of Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham that the rocket hit a point only “a few meters away from the Iranian embassy in Sana’a and shattered its windows”.

“Fortunately, the (Iranian) ambassador and the diplomatic staff have not been hurt in the attack,” he added.

“We declare in straightforward words that our embassy will continue its activities and we consider Saudi Arabia, as the aggressive state, as to be directly responsible for any incident which would trouble diplomatic activities of our embassy in Sana’a,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister warned.

The airstrikes today hit Faj Attan district in Southwestern Sana’a where the Iranian mission is located, killing 27 Yemeni people and injuring 226 others.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 26 days now to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed over 2,726 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children. The attacks have also left thousands of people injured.

Hadi stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Houthi movement.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
