Saudi Envoy to Iran: Riyadh Accuses No Country of Assassination Plot

Saudi Ambassador to Tehran Osama Bin Ahmad Al-Sanosi dismissed the western media reports alleging that Riyadh has accepted the US accusations against Iran, and stressed that “we will not allow enemies to misuse” the occasion.

Sanosi made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Tehran on Wednesday, where he underlined his country’s enthusiasm for the further development of ties with Iran.

He referred to the official stance of the Saudi foreign ministry on the issue, and said, “Based on this stance, no country has been accused and the official position of Riyadh will be announced after the completion of investigations.”

Sanosi also announced Saudi Arabia’s readiness to host the Iranian pilgrims in the Hajj season, and said, “We do not allow enemies to misuse (the situation).”

On Tuesday FBI and DEA agents alleged that they have disrupted a plot to commit a “significant terrorist act in the United States” tied to Iran.

The US officials claimed that the plot included the assassination of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, with a bomb and subsequent bomb attacks on the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C. Bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were also discussed, according to the US officials.

US Attorney General Eric Holder claimed in an announcement Tuesday that the plan was “conceived, sponsored and was directed from Iran” by a faction of the government and called it a “flagrant” violation of US and international law.

Shortly after Holder publicly announced the foiled plot, the US Treasury announced it was initiating sanctions against five people allegedly connected to the plot.

Iran has strongly rejected the US accusation.

After the accusation popped up, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi dismissed the allegations, and said, “Iran enjoys good bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia and if there is any difference, it is over international issues.”

He underlined that anyone who is familiar with political issues will understand that the accusation is based on a US-Israeli plot because they want to accuse Iran on one hand, and bring Saudi Arabia and Israel to one side, on the other hand.
