Iran supports Lebanon’s unity

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili has said that the country support’s unity in Lebanon, stressing that unity will create opportunities for the Lebanese nation.

“Lebanon’s unity and resistance should turn into opportunities for well-being of the Lebanese nation,” Jalili said in a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Sunday.

Hariri arrived in the Iranian capital of Tehran earlier on Saturday for a three-day visit.

In his first visit to Tehran as the Lebanese prime minister, Hariri is scheduled to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on bilateral and regional issues.

Jalili stressed that supporting Lebanese unity and resistance is the strategy of the Islamic Republic, Mehr news agency reported.

“Whatever harms the unity and resistance of Lebanon has in fact targeted the interests of Lebanese people,” he stated.

Hariri, for his part, referred to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Lebanon and its effect on strengthening the country’s stability and national unity and said, “Lebanon is ready to cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all political and economic fields.”

President Ahmadinejad paid a visit to Lebanon in mid-October upon an invitation from his Lebanese counterpart Michel Sleiman.

During the visit, the Iranian chief executive met with Lebanon’s top officials, political leaders, academics and university students, and addressed large crowds of people in Beirut and southern Lebanon.
