A senior Iranian official has slammed the Al Saud regime’s aerial assault against Yemen, saying the ongoing military aggression could endanger the entire the Middle East.

“The fire of war in the region from any side… will drag the whole region to play with fire. This is not in the interest of the nations in the region,” AFP quoted Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as saying on Tuesday.

Amir-Abdollahian, who was speaking to reporters in Kuwait, said Tehran and Riyadh can pave the way for a “political solution” in the Arabian Peninsula state.

The senior Iranian diplomat once again reaffirmed Iran’s firm opposition to the Saudi-led war, describing it as an act of “aggression.”

“We strongly object to the military solution in Yemen. We believe that the Saudi military attack against Yemen is a strategic mistake,” said Amir-Abdollahian.
Amir-Abdollahian, who is in Kuwait City to take part in a conference on providing financial aid to help resolve the crisis in Syria, also stated that cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia could lead to a solution to the deadly violence gripping Syria.

On March 26, the Al Saud regime unleashed deadly air raids against Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

This is while Ansarullah revolutionaries say Hadi lost his legitimacy as president of Yemen after he fled Sana’a to the southern city of Aden in February.

Hadi, who is now in Riyadh, stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries, but the Yemeni parliament did not approve his resignation.

Gradually, as the Yemeni government failed to provide security and properly run the affairs of the country, the Ansarullah fighters started to take control of state matters to contain corruption and terror.

The Ansarullah fighters took control of the Yemeni capital in September 2014 and are currently moving southward.
