Egypt, Turkey scrap planned naval exercises

Egypt and Turkey have scrapped planned naval exercises over diplomatic row between the two former allies over the deadly crackdown on the supporters of ousted President Morsi.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a Friday statement that Cairo decided to cancel the maneuvers scheduled to take place in October in protest at Ankara’s “clear interference” in domestic affairs of the North African country.

The decision was made in “protest at the unacceptable Turkish statements and actions which represent a clear interference in Egypt’s domestic affairs and stand against the will of the Egyptian people,” the ministry said.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu wrote on Twitter on Friday that Ankara informed Cairo about its decision to cancel its invitation to Egypt to participate in the two exercises, one bilateral and the other within NATO.

The move came after both states recalled their respective ambassadors, following Turkish government’s condemnation of the “massacre” of peaceful protesters in Egypt While the same Government support, arm, finance the bloody massacre in Syria
