Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Seyyed Ammar Hakim said Iran greatly contributes to regional stability.

In a meeting with Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Hakim said that the two countries have extensive cultural, political and economic capacities which should be used optimally.

Referring to the Islamic awakening movements in the region, the Iraqi official said that determination of the nations have convinced the governments to surrender to their righteous demands.

Salehi, for his part, hoped that the Iraqi government will help resolve regional problems in cooperation with the neighboring countries and consultations with Iran.

He underlined that regional developments require democratic and collective response.

Salehi arrived in Iraqi capital Baghdad on Wednesday at the head of a high-raking delegation.

The Iranian foreign minister visited Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates last week.

Since the fall of Saddam Hossein’s regime, Iran and Iraq have enjoyed cordial relations which have been growing.
