US- Atlanta police officers detain fourteen 99-percenters

US police forces have arrested 14 Occupy protesters holding peaceful demonstrations outside several Chase Bank branches in the city of Atlanta.

The demonstrators were arrested outside five separate branches of Chase Bank on Monday.

Sofia Lipko, an Occupy Atlanta organizer, condemned the arrests and said such moves by the authorities would not discourage the protesters who are determined to fight corporate greed.

Shortly after the arrests were made, the activists released a statement saying that their protest would continue on Tuesday, the birthday of the CEO of JP Morgan Chase, the parent company of Chase Banks.

The Occupy movement owes its inspiration to the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protests, which began when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest the excessive influence of big corporations on official US policies and the high-level corruption in the country.

Police officers in the US have made thousands of arrests as part of the crackdown on the Occupy movement since its emergence.
